As I roam around the country, I love talking with other adventurers who travel by RV. RVers are friendly people, and we like to talk about RVing. Back home, I hear questions from people who are trying to decide whether RVing is right for them. Here's one many beginners ask.
Q. Why go on an RV caravan when I could adventure to the same place myself and save money?
A. Here are some benefits to consider:
-- Seeing and doing more because of the caravan host's expertise and experience in searching out worthwhile sights and activities.
-- Being more motivated to capture all that the new area offers when with a group. Sometimes one-unit RVers miss interesting events or new sights because they don't feel like getting out of their comfort zone. They are more likely to join in with the group that is stopping at a Presidential library than if they were traveling alone. Thus the opportunities for enriching life's experiences are increased.
-- There's a sense of security when traveling with a caravan. If your RV or tow vehicle has a problem, you can call on the caravan host to help you decide what to do and in some instances actually give hands-on aid to fix it.
-- You can make lasting friendships with someone who actually lives across the country from you. RVers from all over the country travel in caravans.
-- You can relax and enjoy the journey while someone else arranges for campgrounds, routes, activity tickets, touring transportation and many meals.
While you may, or may not, spend more money, it's usually worthwhile to journey by caravan. See Tours and Caravans for names of several companies.
